Intense Pulsed Light, also known as a Photofacial, is a skin rejuvenation light therapy treatment using levels of customized wavelengths targeting sun damage, age spots, pigmentation irregularities sometimes caused by acne or scarring, melasma (pregnancy mask), dilated blood vessels, or broken capillaries, and redness or rosacea. The Intense Pulsed Light PhotoFacial is one of the best overall non-invasive skin rejuvenation options to help stimulate collagen, minimize fine lines and pore size, and produces a more even skin tone, texture, clarity and healthy appearance to the skin.
During your visit, your medical aesthetician will briefly consult with you to assess your current skin health and best treatment options. If IPL/ Photofacial is best suited for your needs, eye protection is provided, your skin is cleansed and prepared with a prep solution, and hydrating, cooling gel is applied to the skin. While treating, you will feel a warm sensation as the intense pulsed light is gently emitted into the skin to target your skin concerns. Afterward, patients may experience mild redness and a sunburn-like sensation for 24-48 hours. Any sun damage or brown spots may get a “peppered” appearance which will last about a week or so before you will begin noticing the improvements in the skin. This can easily be covered with makeup. A series of 3-5 treatments are suggested for best results. It is highly encouraged to avoid sun exposure, be faithful to sun protection, and use an appropriate skincare regimen for best results and future maintenance.
