Hair loss, or alopecia, may have a significant impact on a patient’s quality of life.
Alopecia can affect patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly, and may occur for a variety of reasons; some causes include genetics, autoimmunity, and physical or emotional stress. Some cases are more easily reversible than others. Treatment of alopecia depends on the cause and may include topically applied solutions or foams, scalp injections, or even oral medications. If our providers suspect an internal cause of the alopecia, we may order specific blood tests to help make the diagnosis.
Since there are many forms and causes of hair loss it is important to receive a proper diagnosis so that the treatment plan can be as successful as possible. Treatments can depend on several factors including your age, the amount of hair loss, and where the hair loss is occurring.
