What is it?

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition seen most commonly in adults and often confused with facial acne. While there are several variants of rosacea, two of the most common presentations involve tiny red bumps and pimples that appear mostly on the central area of the face in some people as well as the rosy cheeks, flushing, and dilated blood vessels displayed by others. It is common for patients with rosacea to have “flare ups” over time, which, with proper diagnosis and treatment, can be properly controlled.

How do we treat it?

Treatment involves, at the very least, a broad-spectrum sunscreen and diligent sun protection and may also require prescription creams, oral antibiotics, or light- or laser-based therapies. The providers and staff of Thomas Dermatology are experts at the management of this very common skin condition.
