How Is Daxxify™ Different from Botox®?

For the two decades it’s been on the market, Botox® has wowed us with its rejuvenating effect on aging skin. Botox is the brand name of a cosmetic injection containing a neurotoxin that temporarily freezes the muscles responsible for several kinds of wrinkles and fine lines, including crow’s feet, eyebrow lines, and forehead lines. 

While the neurotoxin found in Botox has been distributed under different brand names over the years, Botox has remained in the top spot for cosmetic injection choice. However, a new brand on the market — called Daxxify™ — could be a true contender for passing Botox in popularity.

Understanding Botox

Botox is an injection that contains a very small amount of a purified form of botulinum toxin, which in large doses can cause botulism (food poisoning). However, when used for cosmetic purposes, botulinum toxin is safe and can block selective nerve signals and inhibit muscles from contracting. 

As we age, many of the wrinkles and fine lines we develop are the result of colorful facial expressions. So, when injections containing this neurotoxin — such as Botox — are placed in a wrinkled area, those targeted facial muscles can no longer stiffen, relaxing and softening your complexion as a result.

To keep up the desired effects of Botox, you need to get repeat injections every 3-4 months.

Understanding Daxxify

Daxxify is another cosmetic injection that contains a purified form of botulinum toxin to temporarily paralyze the muscles responsible for wrinkle formation. However, Daxxify contains a different ingredient that sets it apart from other cosmetic injections. 

All injections that contain botulinum toxin need what’s called a stabilizer to keep it safe. While Botox uses human serum albumin (HSA), which is a blood product, Daxxify uses a novel peptide protein that not only keeps the injection stable but also extends its longevity to about one year with two treatment sessions. 

Understanding the differences between Botox and Daxxify

Botox and Daxxify are both injections that contain botulinum toxin and can eliminate unwanted wrinkles and fine lines. They’re both excellent choices approved by the FDA for cosmetic use. 

However, Botox contains human products and doesn’t last nearly as long as Daxxify does, since Daxxify contains a novel peptide. Many people find this appealing since it means you won’t need nearly as many repeat injections to keep up your results. 

Daxxify and Botox can deliver very similar results, so really the choice is up to you and what you prefer.
